The iconic cover of Joy Divisions 1979 debut album Unknown Pleasures is perhaps the most enduring image of the post-punk era. To favorites 99 Download album. It even looks like something classic, beyond its time or place of origin even as it was a clear product of both - one of Peter Saville's earliest and best designs, a transcription of a signal showing a star going nova, on a black embossed sleeve. The groups earliest work demo tapes recorded under the name Warsaw and a debut EP, Ideal for Living some of which will appear in a forthcoming import album was a worthy but hardly exceptional example of a band attempting to forge art-rock influences mostly David Bowie, Brian Eno and Roxy Music and primitivist archetypes some Sex Pistols, a little Who into. Unknown Pleasures is the debut studio album by English rock band Joy Division, released on 15 June 1979 by Factory Records. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures 1979. One of the finest post-punk albums ever crafted. And just as theres no doubting the canonical impact of the album, the same can be said for its cover. With light shifting disco beats wedded to Ian Curtis' wrenching baritone equipped lustful basslines and awe-inspiring guitar riffs, matched with the angst and depression of 1970s Manchester. Язык: Русский. In order to embellish the drum synth rhythm on it, Martin sent me into the tiny vocal booth to spray tape head cleaner in time to the drums. Unknown Pleasures Q&A. Rock-and-roll only because whether they were punk, post-punk, new wave or goth is a debate best left to depressives at any bar at any hour. If that were all Unknown Pleasures was, it wouldn't be discussed so much, but the ten songs inside, quite simply, are stone-cold landmarks, the whole album a monument to passion, energy, and cathartic despair. Unknown Pleasures left you unsettled,Closer gave an uncertain calmness and Still was a weird conclusion,as if the underdog lost in a poker-game ,grabbing all the chips.....got shot in his endeavour and left a beautiful corpse,....still,encapsulated one of the most beautiful covers (first run of 5000) ever made.....even the standard editions are a beauty of design.
  • Ganthisc
Can anyone offer solid reliable info on which is the best sounding CD version to get? i.e. as uncompressed and natural sounding as possible! And whilst on the subject, same info for Closer CD too!Are the 2007 2CD versions any good?
  • Hellstaff
Anyone have an empty sleeve for this release?? Contact direct please and thank you
  • Gralinda
You who own this record, please correct me if I am wrong:This original 1st version has OUTSIDE B etched in the vinyl, i.e. on the side that has the black label?so which track does this OUTSIDE B start with? 'She's Lost Control' or 'Disorder' ?
  • Haracetys
Yes, the first track on the black label side which has "OUTSIDE B" etched on the vinyl starts with Disorder
  • fabscf
Is this the first pressing of Unknown Pleasures? Straight from the master tapes?
  • Precious
Personally I can not see why this band get great reviews and fans. I bought the reissue out of interest and just don't get it, sorry. I'm into most music from 1930 to 2019 many genres but this left me cold.
  • Uste
isn't that a really stupid remark? it is also not very interesting for someone whos is interested in purchasing the album... but I guess everyone has a right to have an opinion though?!?
  • Roru
Maybe you dont like hannetts production style?listen to the john peel sessions, which have a rawer, edgier vibe which comes closer to their live energy and drive.i love both recordings but prefer the latter due to its tangible power and emotions.no fancy art just a straight boot in ya face (or more like a dagger in your soul)! For best audible experience you can get the 2 og 12"s,which are still fairly easy to get for reasonable cash or an og uk first printed cd,mate.Best wishes......-dmxi-

That's kind of the point. If you've ever been depressed or felt helpless in the world and feel like you can't connect with anyone then this is the album to listen to. Not only that but literally the first verse of the album kind of gives you a look into what Joy Division is about: "I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand / Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man? / These sensations barely interest me for another day / I've got the spirit, lose the feeling, take the shock away." Martin Hannett's production is the lifeblood of this album, it compliments Ian's lyrics and is essential the sound of the band. It's cold, it's dark and echoey, and it's exactly why this album can't be compared to anything else during its time. Not until Closer that is, that album pretty much sealed the legendary status of Joy Division, especially because it wasn't released until after Ian Curtis' suicide.

I have one of these paid £20 didn't really know it would be one of these.Anyway as far as i know its down to a product mix the record was made from not a special ed or anything. The cover is thinly textured though as apposed to the soild black vinyl original i have which has seen better days..
  • Daigrel
Spotify states this day as the day of release. Does anybody have another source that confirm this??
  • Vozilkree
40th anniversary copy on ruby red (???) vinyl to be released in june, hope they don't use a tacky, glossy sleeve.it is said that it was cut from 2007 remaster.

Is anyone aware of which version of Joy Division, Unknown Pleasures (FACT 10 - A Factory Records Product) has the n©b printet on the vinyl sticker. The cover is glossy. Matrix / Runout (side A): FACT-10-A \48505-1Y and Matrix / Runout (side B): FACT-10-B \ 48506-1Y
  • Ylal
I think it's the Scandinavian version has the n©b printed on the label?!
  • Hra
Not. This seems to have a cover with textured surface, while mine has glossy. Else everything is the same.

https://www.discogs.com/Joy-Division-Unknown-Pleasures/release/2331409I believe this is what you are after ? Or not...?

Oh the poor souls who paid for this! It is NOT pressed on red vinyl. It is simply a cheaper black vinyl that appears "red" when held up to a light source like a high wattage bulb etc... This is otherwise known as a scam as this record was NEVER pressed on any color vinyl other than traditional black. You can look at any Factory Records information from this time and see there is no mention whatsoever of any color vinyl pressings. If you buy this after reading the information I just posted you deserve to be ripped off and will be very disappointed when you get your "red" vinyl only to discover its black.
