Album

Fourteen of the 18 tracks on this disc were recorded live in San Francisco in 1966, in fidelity that was good even by the standards of 1997. As such, it's a godsend for psychedelia fans, as the band released only two official tracks, which were themselves hard to find on reissue. That said, the music doesn't quite live up to the legend, though one can see that it was sufficiently exciting for live audiences of the era. The Oxford Circle - Since You've Been Away Live - Продолжительность: 2:20 PUNK'n'DELIC 64-67 Oxford Circle began as the Hideaways in 1964 and they were from Davis, California, which is a university town just outside of Sacramento, and Northeast of San Francisco. Their membership consisted of Gary Lee Yoder on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Dehner Patten on lead guitar, Jim Keylor on bass, and Paul Whaley on drums. They became a popular garage rock act with a proto-punk sound influenced by Them and other blues-based bands of the British Invasion, that, in addition to heavy guitar feedback, came to encompass psychedelia. Although the Oxford Circle are remembered by hardcore psychedelic collectors as a San Francisco psychedelic band due to their shows on the city's ballroom circuit in 1966 and 1967, they actually formed in Davis, about an hour to the east. The group played energetic garage-psychedelia that was heavily derivative of British bands such as the Yardbirds and Them, and managed to release just one single, Foolish WomanMind Destruction, for the tiny World United label. An entire 1966 concert, in surprisingly excellent fidelity, formed the basis for an Oxford Circle CD in 1997 that also included their single and a couple of unissued cuts. Live recordings from what must have been the best thing coming out of Sacramento USA in the 60's. A raw ravaging R&B / GARAGE / PUNK / PSYCHEDELIC exhibition by a band that later involved into KAK and BLUE CHEER.
